Rush Holt on non-scientists

"[It’s] unfortunate that so many think that science isn’t for everyone; that it’s a special club with a secret handshake and a private window into arcane things that they’re not smart enough to enter."

- US Congressman Rush Holt as interviewed by Seed magazine

Joshua Roebke of Seed Magazine recently interviewed Congressman Holt, a physicist, about what it’s like to be a scientist in the U.S. House of Representatives. Although his colleagues are currently attempting to legislate the protection of consulted scientists from "government intervention and manipulation", Holt believes that it would be much more helpful if every citizen just had a good knowledge of science and its processes.

The interview appeared in the Dec/Jan 2006 issue of Seed.
