James is an Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University and the author of The Stability of Laughter. In addition to his academic research, he has written for places like The Chronicle of Higher Education and Times Higher Education, City Monitor and the The Awl, with work forthcoming in The Examined Life, published by the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He is also an editor at Central Asia's first international literary journal, Angime.
